Cars, Fashion and More at Launch 2012: Driving Fashion Forward

14 Mar

Fast cars, fabulous fashions and fine food? What’s not to love!  Thanks to Autohaus on Edens along with their elite Ambassador Partners, you can experience the Launch 2012 event: Driving Fashion Forward on Sunday, March 18th, 2012, 5-7:30pm. The event promises an evening of cocktails from Knightsbridge, light bites from Carlos’ new restaurant Nieto’s, and a preview of North Shore Spring fashions from the area’s best  boutiques – all in the Mercedes showroom.

I am most looking forward to seeing the designs from eight Columbia University fashion students who will each bring one look from their collection to model in front of a panel of judges. One lucky student will be announced the winner LIVE at the conclusion of the show and will also receive a $5000 scholarship courtesy of Autohaus On Edens to put toward a semester in school or launching their own collection.

I had the honor of speaking with aspiring fashion designer and contestant, Stephanie Gabrys. I just love her design and style!

Which look will you be showcasing this weekend?
The garment I will be showcasing this weekend is a gown in which was inspired by the Haute Courtier designer Charles James and more specifically one of his most famous four leaf clover dress gown.
Why did you choose this look?
I chose this look because I put so much work and emotions into designing and creating it.  I overcame so many challenges and learn so much while making and designing this gown that I feel very emotionally and physically attached to it and proud of the finish product.
What is your favorite part about fashion design?
My favorite part about fashion design is creating new and innovative garments that no one has ever seen before or thought about before and getting to be as creative and unique as I want. I love creating positive change in the world and I feel designing art helps to alter how people think and what people do.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I see myself as a freelance fashion designer working with individual clients and selling my design to boutiques and working as a fashion stylist/personal shopper either for a fashion magazine, television/movie, children’s wear company/magazine, or freelance.
Which famous designer do you relate to most?
I love Betsey Johnson’s style and feel as if I can relate to her personality and design aesthetics because she likes to design things that pair feminine elements with edgier elements and likes to combine different design elements such as color and pattern that are very unexpected. Her designs are never boring and she seams like a motivated, fun, free spirited woman who designs things that are constantly interesting and not caring what other will think, just like me.
