Sixth Scents

14 Sep

I recently learned about a line of candles made right here in Chicago, called Crash. The line was created in 2005 to help artists and designers find new ways to promote their work-ingenious!

I already love Angela Adams’ bedding and rugs and now her stylish patterns are available on scented candles. With  names like Happiland, Sunshine and Beach Rose, I am sold!

Festival de La Villita

14 Sep

One of my favorite childhood activities was visiting the Mahopac Fire Department Carnival in the summer. It was the first time I tasted cotton candy, drove a bumper car, shot a BB gun, rode a roller coaster and won my first pet gold fish.

Who knew a short drive south of the city to the Little Village neighborhood would take me back in time. The Festival de La Villita, held last weekend, was filled with Carnival rides, authentic Mexican treats, Cinnamon’s nemesis Rock-the Pit Bull, funnel cake, cotton candy, camels and goats, oh my!

Style Scout: Post Baby Fashion

7 Sep

A great friend of mine who always looks flawless, even at 7 months pregnant, is planning ahead for the big arrival. I’m not talking about the baby-she’s concerned about what to wear post baby!

I may not have personal experience with maternity clothes (well, my hubby thinks some of my clothes look maternity and should be burned) but I do know how to feel good and look stylish-even in sweats.

Hoodies: Stylish sweats are comfortable and fashionable.

Volcom Moclov Crew

Hurley Vacay Hoodie

Day Tops: I love Splendid tops. They are soft and very versatile. The belted tunic will cinch your shrinking tummy.

Splendid Melange Tunic

Splendid Two Color Slub Stripe Boatneck Top

Cozy Sweaters: You’ll need some warmer wear in the cold, Chicago winter.

Autumn Cashmere Hoodie Poncho

Alice + Olivia Aviva Marled Vest

Work Blouses: Flowy, colorful and patterned!

Tucker Yoke Blouse

Trina Turk Leslie Blouse

Evening Tops: For a night out sans baby. The off the shoulder beaded top is pretty and shows off some skin.

Vince Camuto Beaded Sequin Top

Geometrics

I visited the Art Institute of Chicago today and was really inspired by this piece entitled, Quadrangles in Two Planes, 1945, by Irene Rice Pereira. It’s an oil on glass and board.

I love geometric prints in art, design and fashion. Here are some fashion and design picks that caught my eye.

I know animal prints are huge-but I can’t help but think of Peg Bundy from Married with Children with all of the leopard mini skirts and cheetah tops around.

If you’re afraid to go too Jerseylicious (Not hating on the show-LOVE it), add a bit of whimsy with animal jewels.

I was recently introduced to Chicago-based Mineralogy Jewelry at the Dose Market. I fell in love with the oversized gems and couldn’t help but buy a ring for myself. The owner was so sweet to customize the ring to fit my tiny fingers on site.

The Pyrite Ring doubles as a weapon. People will think twice about messing with me!

Check out the jewelry on their blog and etsy shop! Christmas and Chanukah will be here in no time!

Beauty Sleep

1 Sep

LONG gone are the days you get home at 1am, sleep until noon and get up feeling refreshed. I am lucky to sleep past 8am on weekends these days thanks to a 50 pound, snoring English Bulldog who’s ready at 6am for her breakfast.

There is one place that does offer the most luxurious beds in all of Chicago, Chicago Luxury Beds. Their newly renovated showroom boasts 3,000-square-feet of  beds and bedding from brands like Hästens, VI-Spring,  and now Sferra.

The bed of all beds, the Hästens Vividus king, is handmade, takes 160 man hours to complete and is guaranteed for 25 years.  It comes to $9.25 per day amortized over a 25 year average lifespan.  I think it’s worth it! Now how do I get my dog to stop snoring?

And….how stylish- Hästens beds are covered in Gingham!

Test them out for yourself at the Chicago Luxury Beds showroom!
