The Challenge: Comfortable, but cute walking shoes

I rarely wear my Nike running shoes, unless I am actually running ! But ballerina flats don’t always give you the support you need. Look for something with a soft, but sturdy sole.

Vintage Voyage: Randolph Street Market

23 Sep

This weekend is the Randolph Street Market filled with a treasure trove of vintage finds including my faves-Chanel handbags, antique furniture, strings of pearls and fur shrugs. But for the first time, the Market has selected an elite group of trend setting editors and designers to pick their favorite items and booth displays. If the item sells, the Market will donate a portion of the proceeds to the editor’s charity of choice! Each item/booth selected will adorn a Blue ribbon. Look out for these exclusive finds!

Here are some pics from last month’s event. I love the French country furniture and home accessories from this vendor—

I’m still in wedding season and traveling the country sharing my husband’s standard black, canvas, garment bag with his suit and shoes is getting a little too crowded for my liking. I want my own  airplane-friendly tote just for me!

Meet Jendarling Bags:

Jen started designing garment bags in early 2008 with a passion to create something stylish, yet reusable.  A few months later, a garment bag was born.

They come in a variety of patterns including my fave-stripes!

Horse Bit

18 Sep

My petite stature is perfect for a professional jockey, but after lessons in Central Park and at sleepaway camp, I knew that I would never be a Pro. One of my closest friends who used to compete in the Hamptons always has the best barn jackets and equestrian style. You don’t have to be a real rider to look like one. Here’s what I’m loving now.

The Writing is on the Walls: Graffiti in Home Décor

15 Sep

Guest Blogger: Jill Maremont

My husband Michael grew up in Lincoln Park.  As a city kid, he proved his street cred through various urban adventures that included creating “street art”.  We recently watched the documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop”, a revealing inside account captured by a manic shop-keeper turned film-maker as he attempts to document the most infamous vandals including the faceless Banksy.

How does street art translate into our everyday lives?  The world of art, fashion and home design consistently collide.  For decades street fashion has influenced the runway and undoubtedly these trends make their way into our homes.

In the world of fashion, Stephen Sprouse designed a Graffiti Collection for Louis Vuitton first introduced in 2001.  Marc Jacobs reinterpreted the collection with the graffiti and the rose in day glo shades of pink, green and orange.

Graffitt’s hip, urban style brings a blend of sleek modernity and edginess to home décor. I put together a collection of graffiti inspired home products that I love- a cool pendant, art decals from Single Stone Studios and artwork and pillows from Chicago artist Matthew Lew.

MORE-LIGHT: SOUTH3rd RE-SURFACE DESIGN, $400

Single Stone Studios, Vinyl Wall Decal, 40” x 29”, $75

“It is all about Love & Art”, Matthew Lew, mixed media on canvas with a high gloss varnish.

Outdoor pillow commission by Matthew Lew for my roof deck.

I think the writing is on the walls- we will be seeing more of this trend in the future.

Missoni Fever

14 Sep

I was one of the lucky, and persistent shoppers refreshing my browser repeatedly yesterday morning to purchase Missoni’s line for Target. In a matter of minutes, I racked up more than $200 worth of home decor, sweater skirts, makeup bags, and glass tumblers with Missoni’s signature stripes. I just couldn’t help myself.

I think my Missoni fever started a couple weekends ago at the Art Institue’s Textiles Exhibit, which featured beautiful Kimonos from the early 1900’s.

This Japanese Kimono from the Late Taisho Period is silk and cotton and features a similar stripe that I love so much!
